Sometimes our feelings, stress, fear, circumstances become overwhelming and we use alcohol/food/drugs/etc. to "take the edge off" or numb. I become concerned when "taking the edge off" is compulsive, chronic, or consistent.  For many people, they can't have just one of the drink/food/drug and this often can create shame, secrecy, and confusion around this very human behavior.  I offer a judgement free and understanding place to begin to discuss this behavior and, together, we'll look at how this behavior is serving you and how, at other times, it may feel like it controls you.  People with substance use/abuse issues aren't flawed or bad people, much of this is due to genetics, early trauma, or brain wiring; which can be mended with good support and therapy.
